Good Food Safety Practices
Genesis Food follows Good Importing Practices (GIP) and a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) risk-based approach including pre-requisite programs to ensure the safety and integrity of all our products by identifying, addressing and controlling biological, chemical and physical hazards. We implement performance objectives and regularly measure our compliance against food safety standards through internal and external audits. Our food producers and partners must pass a vigorous series of requirements to be an approved Genesis supplier. Recurrent food safety team meetings ensure that customers are provided with ingredients that are safe and always meet their expectations.
Accountability
We have a dedicated Quality Assurance and Quality Control team to fully implement all food safety and quality requirements expected by our valued customers. We are committed to ensuring that our employees have the necessary current knowledge, equipment and support to carry out all tasks hygienically, safely and efficiently. We hold all our suppliers and vendors accountable for meeting our requirements, including the integrity of meeting NOP/COR regulations regarding the absence of pesticide and herbicide residues in organic certified products. This is verified through accredited third-party laboratory testing.
Transparency
We are committed to transparency and sharing information regarding food specifications, quality and issues with regulators, our suppliers and our customers. Genesis maintains all documentation regarding all partners, food source origins and throughout the food supply chain.
Certification
In addition to our organic certifications, the high quality of our product portfolio is supported by stringent product specification documentation. The majority of our products are certified Kosher and come from GFSI certified manufacturers. The approval and maintenance of all certifications is handled by our Quality Management team. These documents are available to our customers to align with their internal processes and requirements.
Organic Certification
Genesis and the products we offer are certified by Ecocert under the Canada Organic Regime (COR). This certification guarantees climate and environment protection, conservation of soil fertility, preservation of biodiversity, respect of natural cycles and animal welfare, absence of use of chemical and synthetic products, absence of GMO and transparent labelling for consumers.
Kosher Certification
Kosher Certification is the stamp of kosher approval by a rabbinic Agency verifying they have checked the products ingredients, production facility and actual production to ensure all ingredients, derivatives, tools and machinery have no trace of non-kosher substances. The Kosher Certified symbol assures consumers that both the actual product and its production adhere to all Kosher Law requirements.
Our Story
Genesis was first created as Himex Organic Products in 1986 in Gatineau, Quebec as one of the first brokers and exporters of Canadian organic products to the world. As a pioneering company in the Canadian organic food industry, focus expanded to importing organic items from Europe and beyond. The company moved to Montreal, Quebec in 1992 to a 3,000 sq. ft warehouse. Three years later, due to high demand, a 14,000 sq. ft warehouse was required.
